Encouraging healthy behavior and decreasing substance abuse in our community.

About Us

Central Vermont New Directions Coalition was established in 1998 to serve the needs of youth and families in six Washington County towns. The coalition is a non-profit organization dedicated to making a difference in youth substance use in our community. With the help of community members and organizations we are able to successfully educate and inform all demographics within our community.

Our Mission: To encourage healthy behavior and decrease substance use in our community

Central Vermont New Directions Coalition uses many strategies to accomplish its goals and objectives, including:

  • Building and maintaining a coalition of youth and adults interested in working together
  • Prevention education
  • Parent education presentations
  • Girls/Boyz First Mentoring Program matching adults/teens with elementary and middle school-age youth
  • Youth Anti-Tobacco Campaign
  • Retailer/Server training and retailer recognition with the VT Department of Liquor Control
  • Providing community education and prevention resources
  • Education and advocacy on policy approaches
  • Environmental strategies, such as taxes, outlet density, and advertising, to protect youth and community members
  • Education of boards, commissions, and community groups
  • Self-assessment screening tools like the e-checkup
  • Increase access to healthy foods
  • Increase access to physical activity
  • 802 Quits smoking cessation programs
  • Education on prescription drug abuse and safe disposal
